Let her grow and after she has reached as close to he max height, try pinching the growing tips out. It worked on an Earnest Markham I grew for almost 10 seasons. She would get 10 feet tall and no blooms. I pinched one year and I got a few flowers and would have gotten lots more but a frost killed her. With our short season it just wasn't meant to be.

No, my Polish Spirit is not blooming yet but its too early for anything to bloom in my zone.Actually, its not even very tall and if it doesn't bloom I think I will say bye-bye to it.
Just went outside to check and Betty Corning has buds but none on Prince Charles,Etoile Violette, Huldine.
Huldine has been another dud for me.3rd year and just a few flowers last summer.I am sure it is Huldine because the flowers looked right.

Well, I may as well pinch it now, it's plenty tall enough, clear up the trellis and going sideways. My Betty Corning is blooming also, and I love her. The fragrance is lovely. Another one has me stumped, as it usually gets taller, Mrs. H F Young. It bloomed about a foot tall with 9 huge blooms, couldn't even see the plant. I suppose I need to pinch it too.

I bought a little bare root Polish Spirit at WalMart last year, planted it directly in my garden, and it produced a few dozen blooms the first year. This year it's covering a 5 x 7 trellis and covered in blooms. It's my first clematis, but it's done so well I added 4 more this spring.

This spring I followed advice here on pruning group 3 clematis and I cut it back to about a foot high when the new buds started showing. It immediately sent up several really sturdy new shoots, and was 7 feet high within a few weeks.

I also followed the advice on this forum and cut back all my group 3 clematis early this Spring.However, I probably have not pinched enough so maybe I should go ahead and pinch Polish Spirit. Guess it would be worth a try but its hard for me to take the step.LOL.

Our PS won't bloom until July. This is also our 3rd year, and it's growing well (about 2ft high now) and I'm pinching like crazy to get more branching. I would just be patient.

OK, patience it is. I'll let you all know if it ever blooms.

Flowergirl, did you cut it back in spring? PS is a type III Clematis which blooms on new wood. It has to be hard pruned every winter/early spring to bloom prolifically.

Yes Alina, it got cut back with all the others. I always cut all the 2's and 3's back, usually mid to late March.
