My little miracle...

I've tried to grow tender Florida Sieboldii and Viennetta several times. All of them died. Last year I bought bare root Viennetta from Park's. Not the best vendor for buying plants... I planted that pathetic bunch of roots 2' from the house foundation. We had extremely harsh winter: hard frost without snow, winds, etc. I did not think it will survive after all failures I had with FS and Viennetta. Well, it did! It even gave me a couple of blooms!

I really needed something positive after this year frustrating plant orders. I have 3 orders from online sellers messed up this spring :(

My Viennetta isn't blooming yet, but it survived -20 F this past winter. It's over 4 feet tall and has plenty of buds. It is definitely slower to start than the other clems.

Somebody suggested burying it in leaves or mulch during the winter and that has worked very well for me.

I'm in zone 8 and have had two florida sieboldiis die over winter....:(

Maybe, it is not tender. It is probably just finicky to grow... I remember Miguel mentioned that FS grows nicely for his friend in zone 5.
I really hope that this one will get established in my garden... It is so distinctive.
