Have you pulled back the mulch & got a bird's eye view? I currently have 2 that thought were goners & w/i the last week or so am now seeing extremely small nubs coming up. Last year I didn't see my sieboldii emerge til mid June. I guess I wouldn't give up & say farewell just yet. How big was the root system when you planted it? Did you have it mulched for winter?

I just found 6" of Arctic Queen which I thought was a goner last year and probably the year before that also. I've never known any other plants to "resurrect" the way clemmies do. I usually give them at least a year, sometimes two.

Well I dug down and found something, but it doesn't look clemmy...there are 2 whitish things about 2 inches in...there don't seem to be any leaf sprouts or anything so I will just leave them a little while longer and see what comes up.

Sounds like you have a survivor! Mine are whitish emerging from the soil too & you won't see leaves until they get several inches above ground. Congratulations!

Those little whitish things are definitely signs of life. Two of my clems planted last fall presented me with them, and I was very dubious that they'd ever turn into anything, but after what seemed like an eternity, green sprouts and leaves appeared next to the whitish stumps. They are still small but growing fast. So, keep the faith!
