My new baby Rooguchii clematis label says plant in full shade. I live in a newer neighborhood, though, and can only find a spot with morning sun and afternoon shade. Will this clematis tolerate this? Does it help that I am so far north? Please help.
At the mile high city, our air is thin and our sunshine intense - ever seen a plant with a sun burn? I have.
I've only had my little Rooguchi for one year, but it's in almost full sun and is growing and blooming very well. It is planted in very good soil and gets plenty of water.
I think morning sun would be okay. Mine gets no sun until about noon and then it plays in sun/shade on and off the rest of the afternoon until late afternoon when it's mostly shaded again. I've had mine about four years and it was at least a couple years old when I purchased it. Fast grower, first up every spring, blooms it's self crazy, leaves are a nice green. I just keep trimming off old blooms and it keeps right on blooming. I really like it.
Mine is in a hot south facing part fo my garden. It started off in mostly full sun, but the plum behind it (and now supporting it) has grown well and now shades some of the plant (though it has clung its way more than half-way up the plum and is blooming like a trooper)
One of these days I'll take and post a picture of it if I remember.
