Only grow Pamiat Serdtsa and it grows in full sun. It is a nonclinger so you will have to tie it on the obelisk to get it to climb.

When you say tie it on....do you like to use the twisties, like you would get with a loaf or bread, or plastic tape? I notice when tied a little too tightly, the clem seems not to like it.

My Pamiat Sedsta is close to 8ft tall. I used 8ft bamboo sticks in a tripod. The bottom is wrapped with chicken wire. If we tie we use velcro strips.

Yep, you have to be careful how you tie any type of vines on to a structure or the vines will grow and get squeezed between the trellis and the tie ons. All you basically have to do is leave enough slack between the vines and the trellis to allow the stems to grow in diameter without being pinched as they grow.

As to what I have used, you name it and I have used it including a roll of what in essence is the same thing as bread twisties or the vinyl expandable green tape. A single bread twistie is not long enough to be able to tie on vine without it eventually becoming so tight that the vine will suffer. Think of it as someone putting a tourniquet loosely on a small child's arm and leaving it on as the child grows up. Initially it would be loose but as the child grows and its arm grows, the tourniquet would tighten and eventually not allow blood flow through the arm, resulting in death of the arm.

In the following picture, you will see how you can tie the twisties onto the bamboo stake and make a loop that will support the vine without it choking it as it grows in size.
