Two possibilities occur to me:

Plant another odoriba--double the impact by having double the bloom!

Or, plant it with Clematis Franziska Maria. The large double purple bloom of the one should contrast effectively with the small delicate-shaped pink-white other one.

At least, that second option is what I'm assuming and actually did in my backyard, but since it is a brand-new planting, I can't really say for sure yet how it will look whenever it is that my new clems start blooming. : )

The clem you suggest is absolutely beautiful but, being new to clems, I would be nervous about mixing the two pruning groups.

Julie, there are a number of purple clems in Group III that you could use. That good ol' standby Jackmani or Jackmani superba (either one--I can't tell the difference myself) would work. Any garden center carries it.

The main diff. is that the other purples (like Jackmani) are singles (unlike the one I recommended above), but Jackmani is still a beautiful purple. I grow 5 of them myself.
