I can't get that one to grow either. I've given up on it, at least for now...

One of mine died too after a few years of spectacular bloom. The second one is limping along....leaves are very, very yellow....

She doesn't like me either. But I'm still trying. If the last one doesn't survive, she will NOT be replaced.

Yes, you should fertilize. Manure tea is fine or you can use organic rose or tomato fertilizer.

Mine is three years old this year and one of my best growers..she always gives me a fabulous showing...very vigorous

Mine too. She is full of fat buds right now and I think this year she will be spectacular as she is now three.

However, I am finding that I am having problems with both mildew and wilt with different clemmies that other people seem to grow with no problems.

Carolyn, don't think you are the only one. I tend to get mildew on some clematis that other people typically don't also. Right now integrifolia Hanajima is battling mildew. A lot of it has to do with the growing conditions (good air circulation) and the environment (hot and humid). For me, providing more water and watering so that any that get water on their leaves dries before night time does nothing towards fighting it. I have heard that you need to start spraying with a systemic fungicide before the problem arises to really get it under control. Unfortunately I rarely think of doing so until after the symptoms appear.

This is my third year with Comtesse she is just now opening up and is full of buds...she is a real beauty.. she thrives next to Polish Spirit..they compliment each other greatly.
Sorry to hear that many Comtesses have passed...
