Normally 50 percent of all citrus cutting that are being rooted by the sealed bag method die. Some tips: 1). Because of the perched water table that is present in the bottom of all containers be sure that you use a rooting container at least 4 inches tall, and not more than 6 inches tall. 2). Be careful to not place the bottom of the cutting in the bottom 1-1/2 to 2 inches of the container. Due to the perched water table the bottom inch or two of the container contains to much moisture, and therefore not enough oxygen. 3). Use a STERILE potting medium made of 50 percent sphagnum peat moss and 50 percent perlite. 4). Be sure everything has been completely sterilized. 5). ONLY USE healthy cuttings that contain a lot of energy, from the second from the last flush.

6). Keep at a constant 75F to 80F for fastest growth.
7). Dropping complete leaves with stalks is not always a bad sign if the stem is still completely green. It indicates the cutting is functioning correctly by discarding excess leaves during rooting, and will then produce a new flush of growth. (The dropped leaves should be quickly removed to prevent moulds growing.)

It's been a while since I've rooted citrus cuttings, but when I did, I had the best luck using peat pots or peat pellets. I'd cut a healthy 4-5" cutting, dipped in rooting hormone, then placed in pellet..or if I used peat pots, added a well-draining soil..Stuck cuttings in holes, then placed vented plastic around pots for a humid atmosphere..set plants in bright but indirect sun. Because the sun and plastic heated pots, I'd check soil every couple days..Some ppl add a well-dilluted fertilizer to get cuttings started. I also misted cuttings daily. I've also used this method w/Azalea and GArdenia..Good luck, Toni
