So far just two, but if I can get them to grow, I have visions of a whole lot more to cover the side fence here. I have one H.F. Young in the back (north) and one Ramona in the front (south), but they just went in yesterday!

I think I have 7 but it could be 8, including 1 potted venosa violacea that I haven't decided where to plant or to give away, and I have one ordered for fall- purpurea recta- couldn't resist the foliage. Really, all of mine are babies. One of them had several blooms on it this spring- I think it's Asao. Brandy

Counting one that has two leaves and I've moved twice this year (its still alive though) and one which I haven't yet seen bloom and can't tell if its still there because its mixed within two others, then I have 17.

Right now Triternata Rubromarginata is blooming through a goumi bush and looks (and smells) incredible.

I have 62 planted in the ground and about 10 in pots. That is going to be about it as I am out of room. It's too bad since there are so many beautiful new varieties coming out I wish I had a bigger yard!

Well just the other day I went back and recreated the spreadsheet I had on my last computer before it crashed and assuming I included all the ones I have and not counting ones that I have removed or have not showed up from last season, I have a total of 119 in the ground and in pots.

I have 23, eight are in pots.

Wow! That is impressive! I should've asked how big are your gardens also! Personally, I will have to figure out how to sqeeze my 30+ Clematis into my very small future garden. I will have to be very inventive...

119 is a record so far. Migulel, how large is your garden? Are they all different? I remember someone mentioned having more that 200 Clematis.

Here's a funny question - why do I have so many multiples of clems, but not of roses? I have about 75 roses - two of Zephirine Drouhin, the rest unique. Also, high on my want list of clems are extras of Asao, Claire de Lune, Roguchi, Ville de Lyon, Warsaw Nike, and Mikelite. My rose list is for untried cultivars. Anyone else have the same experience?

Alina, my yard is a total of 1/3 acre not including the house and the hardscaping. I cram clematis as close together as possible so I can have as many as possible and because it makes watering easier--quite a task so far this summer with all our heat and minimal rain. No, not all are different. I have 2 of several of the US native clematis including addisonii, glaucophylla, viorna, and pitcheri (actually 3 pitcheri if you count the pitcheri hybrid I purchased from Brushwood.) Even the species clematis can show a little variation in flower color and shape so even they are duplicates they are unique in their own way.

I have a mere 8 so far...

Thanks Miguel, you are giving me some hope! My newly purchased lot is 1/4 acre. That is including the house, hardscaping and all these darn Maples that consume half of the area :( Your example is very inspiring in terms of the number of Clematis per sq foot :)

My yard is a small city lot. I think it is 50 x 70 and the house is in there too and DH's lawn.....Love to be rid of the lawn to plant more....

I have no duplicates. I am thinking of duplicating my Midnight Blue rose. It smells so good for such a long distance that I think I need one in the back yard too.

I now have 3. The newest one is the Jackmanni that I bought 3 weeks ago. I would love to have more but my yard gets full sun all afternoon. I had two on a fence about 4 years ago, but they died, I believe because of the hot sun.

I have 25 clematis, plus two duplicates, for a total of 27 soon to be 26, because either Ramona or Will Goodwin just wilted again (I have to check my location list to be sure which is which) and is soon to be dug out and tossed. Neither of these are new plants and I'm sick of the wilt, so whichever this one is it is out...of here!

He He, I think I'll check Chalk Hill and see if anything catches my eye cuz I'm going to have an open spot soon.

BTW, I have a small suburban lot and very little grass.

Miguel, you are an inspiration, as I too am on a 1/3 acre. I have been looking at new possibilities for next year. I am currently looking at putting clems into my dogwood and kwanzon cherry. Not sure how well that will go over with DH. It is already to a point where if we go somewhere and I see another clem that I 'have to have', that I get that look and generally the words, "Carolyn, you really have a problem!" I have found though, if I save my overtime money from work to buy clems, that I don't get that look! I can imagine if I had 119!

I'm not sure how many I have - I haven't counted them recently :-) The last time I did, it was around 45 or so but that was several years ago and I continue to drag home new ones from my nursery with some regularity. Last week it was C. fasciculiflora and 'Confetti'. A couple of weeks previous it was florida 'Seiboldii' (now producing its first bloom - yay!!) and 'Rosemoor'.

It is really time to stop as my little urban lot is small, I'm running out of trees and shrubs to grow them on (fences, trellises and walls got used up ages ago), my garden is becoming increasingly shady as it matures and I don't have the time to devote to maintenance as I once did. But I can't resist these guys and the collection keeps expanding anyway........:-)

Stop? No way. LOL I just rip out old stuff to make way for new. I go through phases of plant obsession.

This thread made me actually go count :-). I have 44 clematis I can identify and 4 NOID's. We live on a tiny lot in a subdivision and I also have over 100 roses, hydrangeas, lilies, Iris, and a host of other plants and trees. I can really pack them in!! LOL. Clematis are easy to fit in.

I'm new to clems this year, but so far I've planted 6, and today I brought home a Niobe to add in somewhere.

I bought four more today.....

Too hot and dry here for me to even think of buying any! I do have tons of seed maturing however and plan on attempting more from seeds this fall!

I bought one more on Friday - Warsaw Nike in a tall 4" pot with roots coming out of the bottom. It was half price. It was on my buy list. I must stop buying more clematis. Seriously, I gotta stop. I have so much stuff to plant already. I have 30 plus plants to get in the ground, which includes 9 or 10 clematis, I've lost track. I've been putting off planting to see if this July would be as hot and dry as last year, but it's turning out to be great, with the exception of this weekend. Next week will be in the high 70's and rain is expected.

Lowes has Viola, and just got in another batch of them. It's on my list. I know I'll give in and buy it.

They were 1 gallons with multiple vines from the crown for $15. I had to buy them.

Mrs. James Mason, Haku Ogan (sp), Arctic Queen and a NOID that I think is Minuet or Etoile Rose. It has tiny leaves and tiny nodding buds all over it when I open a bud there is 4 sepals and they are a pinky rose color. Not sure though as I know Etoile Rose mildews and there isn't any on it though there were Comtesse de Bouchards (sp) right next to it covered with mildew.

Close, it's Haku Ookan.I had 4 flowers on the one I got last year & planted in a tub with 2 other Japanese clems and the small bush with white, pink & green leaves that I can't remember the name of. I cut the HO back to the trellis and branch of the lilac one stem was clinging to after they finished blooming. They don't seem to have grown any since then, but hopefully are growing stronger roots.

I finally put my last purchases in my excel database tonight, and counted up the ones that have some life in them. I may be off by a few, because I still keep some info about ones that died, but it looks like about 103 different ones alive. And about a dozen on the hospital/nursery table trying to recover from wilted stems or partially rotted roots. You don't want to know how many have died on me over the years.
