This clematis is my favorite plant in my whole cottage garden. But this year it is spindly and without leaves on the lower vines. It is only flowering at the very top.

I did not prune it at all this year, so I'm guessing this might be the problem. Is there anything I can do right now? I sure don't want to lose it.
