Again, kind of difficult for me to tell from the photo. Are the stamens dark colored or am I seeing something else? In the center of the flower, there appears to be something dark colored. Here is a picture of my Julia.

Aha...perhaps it's not Julia? The stamens have a light 'base' but have reddish tips and the center stamens are 'bunched up' and look like a reddish clump in the center.

I just did a search on the clematis-hull site, and when I put in the red stamens, I got Westerplatte - that sounds kind of familiar. It might be it. My flowers just look so small.

Good eye, Miguel. I didn't notice the red stamens at the base. It is very difficult to ID clematis when you don't have a clear, close up shot of the bloom and stamens! You are good!

Louise, I hope you have found the ID of your clematis. I still have a couple of clematis that I bought years ago who remain unidentified. That doens't lessen my enjoyment of them but it does bug me.

It resembles an immature bloom like my clematis "Niobe" to me..Jeanne

Jeanne, I thought Niobe initially also but the sepal shape is off and Niobe doesn't have anything reddish in the central portion of the flower.

Thanks for your help! I'm fairly certain it's Westerplatte - the name sounds familiar, and it completely matches the description as far as I can tell.

If the anthers are red with whitish connectives ..It most probably is Westerplatte..I didn't notice the red..My Niobe was gappy looking just like that one when it was a baby...Jeanne
