I have a mature clematis rectus, 4' tall and more than a foot wide at the base. I have tried growing it on a circular trellis. This works fine until after bloom time, but then the hollow stems flop. This year I moved away the trellis, but the tendrils stuck together, stayed upright for awhile, then flopped in one big mass, smothering its neighbors. Any suggestions?
