OT-Crazy Weather

I just came in from the vegetable garden. have a 3/4 bushel of (combined) bell peppers, tomatoes, chili & cayenne peppers, kolhrabis, carrots, & radishes! also my dianthius started blooming, my zinnias & cosmos are still budding & blooming, black eyed susans started blooming, & volunteer poppies started popping up. pretty crazy for late november around here. one year back in the 90's tho, i did pick my last tomato of the year on dec. 4th. my last warty squash is in the oven. still have several spaghetti squash left in the cellar.

Great, for this time of the year. What zone are you in?
    You'll never go hungry.

It's been unseasonably warm here for the past couple weeks but we had several frosts and a hard freeze before it warmed back up so most everything had already been killed. What kind of soil do you grow your kolhrabis in? Mine end up with small bases and way more foliage then they should have. I end up feeding them to the rabbits.

What a fantastic harvest. I bought baby kohlrabi at the Farmers Market. I sauteed them in a little butter and I think they are one of my favorite veggies. I going to have to try growing them myself. Do you live in a mild climate?

i just checked the u.s.d.a. map & i'm in 6a. this is not normal, but not unheard of either. i also remember the 1st day on a construction job in jan. '79 when it was 15* below zero.
i just noticed some naked ladies showing some green too. on the down side i've had increased mole activity but i've got trapping them down now & my neighbor's mastiff has become quite the mole catcher.
kolhrabis are easy to grow. i use them raw in salads & they taste like mild radishes. cooked they remind me of celery.

Kohlrabi was one of my favorites when I grew up. Just peeled them and ate them like an apple.
    A hard apple, that is.
Hey rober49, now you got me wondering if I couldn't add some more pots to my patio to grow veggies?
Lucy is gonna have a fit!!!!

I noticed some forsythias blooming in the backyard yesterday. Strange weather indeed!

It was 67 today! Day before yesterday it was snowing & in the teens with the wind chill. I like these temps much better. LOL

2 out of 3 of my Parsley plants started from seed last spring are blooming. Now. They are planted outside in the garden. Odd.

I was able to get fresh parsley, sage & thyme for my Thanksgiving stuffing & will be able to get at least the sage again for Christmas.

ha ha ha ha ha Ingrid you are right ha ha ha ha

I am drooling again. Cause man do I love kohlrabi!!! I tried to grow it...but :-(
I am NOT willing to pay the price the commisary wants for them . Just like the root celery. Which I just love to use in cooking. Oh well.

GREAT to read that others have such wonderful veggies!!!

As to the weather....I had one child come home and she lives in Florida...we had to turn the heat up to 72 Degrees and I was sweating and hot all the time.

The other one came home from PA and she thought it was great that it was warmer here lol

Yesterday we left early in the morning to take the youngest to the Dallas airport and it was warm and humid. By the time we made it back after a horrible congested traffic late in the afternoon...IT WAS COOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOLD!

    YES, weird weather.
