You can direct sow in the early spring or start them indoors late in the winter. I'd soak the seeds in water overnight prior to planting them.

Wrightii is easy to grow and has a much less erratic germination rate then the metels. I do think that most dats do best with direct sowing but you need to have a long enough growing season to do it. I'd try both, start some early inside and direct sow some as well.
