The sepals look pink to me. You have to remember that the color on a tag is going to fade and not necessarily be true in color to what the clematis will look like. Also, the sepals on a clematis will change in color as they age and get faded out over time.

On COTW, the authority on clematis, they say the early flowers can be double and that is possibly what you are seeing.

My clematis "Dr. Ruppel" blooms start out very dark and fade to look like yours..but the one that is in more shade doesn't fade as badly....Yours looks like "Dr. Ruppel" to me.....Jeanne
