Janet, sort of hard to tell exactly how tall mine is as it sprawls through a japanese maple and Otto Luyken laurel. I would guesstimate mine is around 15 feet tall if the vines were straightened out. Of all the texensis viorna hybrids, this one wins hands down for me since it has never had mildew unlike its cousins Princess Dianna and Gravetye Beauty.

I have another question: Does the flower color fade in full sun?

Do the leaves look decent throughout the summer?
Does it grow fast?

The color on most clematis fade somewhat in the sun, especially here in the south. You might not have as much problems being further north.

My leaves look good most of the year except for very dry years and this happens regardless of how much I water.

Once established it tends to grow fast. I wouldn't consider it a monster fast grower like Polish Spirit though.

My Duchess of Albany is now in its second season. It had a small amount of blooms last year (it's first year) in late summer after being planted in late May 2006 and was hard pruned this year in late April.

It now has around 8 stems coming from the ground, goes up a 4 ft fence and is spreading another 3 to 4 feet to the left along the top of the fenceline, over and on top of Hagley Hybrid on that side, and on the left side over, on top, & across Blue Angel and into a variegated red-twig dogwood a few feet away. So I would guess that at least some of the stems are 10-12 ft long in its second year of growth.

D of A came into bloom (Zone 5 Michigan) after both Hagley Hybrid & Blue Angel, near the end of their bloom cycle, and is still in bloom today. The new blooms are a quite vibrant pink, while the older ones are a more faded violet pink. It also seems to hold its blossoms on the vine for quite a good amount of time. BTW, mine is planted in full sun (northern sun, of course).

Mine gets sun until 1:00. Its planted against the house and taller hibuscus are in front to shade the bottom. No die out on the bottom like some of the others. LOVE IT LOVE IT LOVE IT.
PS I planted a Roguchi(same shape, dark purple) beside it. R isn't as tall but uses DOA as a climbing post-about 5 feet tall
