I'm not that experienced in Clematis; I was interested in growing Beauty of Worcester but was afraid of die back. Could you be getting dieback and therefore only single blooms? It kind of looks like the COTW pictures.

I know I've been cutting back the first couple years to encourage root system. Could be that I cut off next years flowers so to speak lol.
I am going to do an experiment and NOT cut back (maybe a ft or two only) in spring and see if I get any doubles then.
I did look at the link and it does look like the single form of it. Maybe I just need to stop cutting back so much?

Hehe Ops! I'm scared of doing that too, I just bought a Fireworks one. We'll see how badly I do too. *g*

Hi I'm new to the forum and resident in the UK. Your clematis could well be the single form of Beauty of Worcester. If you've been pruning hardish back every year then you will lose those first May/June double flowers as the doubles are produced on the old growth from the previous year and all you will get are single flowers on new growth.

If left unpruned most early large flowered clematis will flower twice, the double varieties flowering in their second flush as singles around July onwards.

If you're not going to prune this year, then next year will tell for sure if it's a Beauty of Worcester. You should get double flowers as the first flush in May/June. I'm talking British flowering times of course, so I hope that's relevant to you! Try the link below for a description and photos of Beauty of Worcester.
