My dog peed on mine two years ago and it died. At least I thought it did. I cut it back to the ground. Low and behold, the following year I got little sprouts coming through the ground and now it's beautiful.

Ditto to all the advice. Once a clematis disappears, it may be a couple of years before it can show back up. Never give up hope unless of course you want to plant something else in its place. Even so, when digging in the old planting area, plant to one side since the roots of the one that disappeared may very well still be viable.

I had some of those "viable" roots turn into something quite pretty. I had moved my Mrs. Chomondeley but apparently didn't get all the root ball. Good thing, too, since I lost the original one. Now I have her {{gwi:609513}} climbing my sycamore tree out front. :)
