Cindy..being in a colder zone ..you would just start to see your Clematis begin to bloom...Being a pruning group 2..It will bloom on the old vines grown from the previous season..once you prune as you did..you'll see your clematis rest and in about a couple weeks start growing again..You really shouldn't have pruned her...I am not sure if you'll see blooms this year..all you can do is wait and hopefully you might see some in late fall...Jeanne
ps...patience is MAJORLY required when it comes to these Jewels in our gardens...please don't be disillusioned because if anything your hardpruning will allow her to have a stronger root system

Yeah, that is what I thought-I was too quick with the snips. I did know from reading this forum that I would be building a stronger root system, so I guess I'll just say that is what I was trying to do!

How far back did you cut your clematis in winter or late spring? If it was cut to the ground then, it wouldn't have bloomed until later this summer. I don't have Blue Ravine, but most of my group 2's bloom May-June as long as some of the stems survive survive the winter.

I cut it back in the spring to about 12 inches. I admit though that due to our weather here in WI, I did not cut it back until early April. I also have a president that I cut back at the same time, also planted last year, and that one is just about done blooming-this is why I thought I should have had some blooms by the time I pruned.

I'm from Wisconsin too. I live in the Fox Valley.

I usually cut back my clematis in early April too.

And... I have had a couple of group 2's that are in their second year that didn't bloom this year either. Next year they will :-)
