Picked up a wilted one for $1 at a plant sale, and it's recovered nicely and is now putting out new growth. Anyone have any advice on growing it in the New England region? So far I understand that clematis likes cool roots, and apparently this one is in pruning group 3.
Any special placement with regards to light? Will it scramble up supports or does it want tying? Also, will it need winter protection? (The tag SAYS it's hardy in zone 6 but I know better than to believe what I read on tags...)
Here is a link that might be useful: Clematis crispa
