It is a type II for what it is worth but then again if it were in my garden, it would be treated as type III.

For future reference, I am linking the search page from Clematis on the Web. Type in the name of the clematis in the first field (Clematis name includes:), hit enter and you will get information on the clematis's name you typed in, including the usual way it is pruned. Thanks! That is exactly what I needed to know. Hopefully I saved it just in time for new growth this year for flowers next summer. Someone mentioned using Rosetone as a good fertilizer to give it strength.
