clematis 'Guiding Star'

I have planted one of these against a large shrub, hoping it will climb and bloom throughout. It is a "Guiding Star" apparently, but I don't know anything about it, most particularly what pruning is needed. (It has yet to bloom, but I believe it is a blue / purple shade.) Any comments?

It's very nice looking and a group 3.

You will have to watch it and help guide it around the shrub. Even with constant attention, sometimes it won't do what you want but instead find it's own way.

I believe it would be a full time job to get a clematis perfectly through a shrub.
