new lime tree pruning?

I bought it this year, have put it in a somewhat larger pot. It's going very well, lots of growth, plenty of flowers and tiny fruits!

Now, do I prune it and if so, how? It will have to come indoors during the winter, I think, here in the Sandhills of NC and can stay in a corner of windows, both south and west.

The woman who sold it says it'll be about so big and made motions of about 4 ft. around. But is she assuming its natural growth or my pruning skills.

If your tree is small, no pruning is encouraged or necessary. Occasionally, citrus trees may grow off to one side or the other. During the summer, you may see water shoots, which suddenly appear. If these look out of proportion to the rest of the tree, you may prune them lightly. Every leaf is precious to maintain the vigor of your citrus. Only prune to maintain a nice shape and then again, this is a rare occurence.

Maureen, I agree w/Mike. By pruning, you will ruin chances of fruits and flowers.
Don't worry about your tree growing too big..when citrus are grown in pots they can only get so large..It's certainly not like growing in the ground..
Don't get me wrong, I'm not saying the tree will stay small, but depending on pot size makes all the difference. Toni
