'Harlow Carr' is one of the RHS Bicentenary Collection clematis bred by Raymond Evison. It is non-clinging form of clematis and is excellent as a weaver and winder through a mixed shrub border or as a groundcover. It will need attachment help on a trellis :-) Like other non-vining clems, it is a prunging group 3 or hard prune. Mine (mislabeled as a florida seiboldii(!!), but a very pleasant surprise anyway) has been blooming nonstop since May. It is still covered in blossoms and with many more buds coming on. This one's a keeper!

You might see it listed as a group II somewhere, so in spring if you see a couple of fat buds while pruning it, don't be surprised.

Yep, I love it too and think the color is fabulous. Mine twines its way up vinyl coated fencing, but is struggling right now with many browned out leaves due to the heat and lack of rainfall!

Westy - where did you get your Harlow Carr? I have been wanting to get 1, but I haven't been able to get out to The Growing Place in Naperville (which is the only place I know of that has it around here).

Entling - I found it at Pasquesi Garden Center in Barrington. There's another in Lake Forest but I've never been there - I've heard it's an incredible nursery - naturally in Lake Forest it's going to have more goodies! I absolutely love it and gardengal is right about needing help - my lattice was made by DH and is 6" squares made by 1x1's and I have to weave it up and back and forth - it does not twine - but it's SO worth it! I want another one. If I see any, I'll let you know. Please do the same for me as I don't usually get to the southern or southwestern parts of Chicagoland.

Entling, if you don't find it locally, Debbie at Silver Star Vinery carries it but according to her website won't have it available until spring. I originally purchased the entire collection several years back bareroot from Van Bourgondien.

OMG Now I have to find Rosemoor. Any color with any blue in it makes me nuts - can only tolerate the reds if they are more toward violet with more blue in them -- this looks similar to H.F. Young -- at least I think that's it. I have one that is similar to Rosemoor but fogot the name and I think it's H.F. Young. I have to start labeling these as I do Hostas - I think you guys are becoming enablers!

Thanks for the info Westy. I live fairly close to Pasquesi's in Barrington. They must've sold out of the Harlow Carrs early b/c I've looked at their clems several times this summer (& bought the Comtesse).

Westy, HF Young is a light blue colored clematis. You must have it confused with another clematis. Here is a picture of it and the President. HF Young is the lighter colored one.

OMG Nckvilledudes - definitely will be hunting down Rosemoor - that is the most beautiful velvety wine color - looks like Merlot! I hope I can find it and will try Silver Star Vinery - which I've never heard of - so if I can't find a website, I'll be back here asking you for help.

And you're absolutely right about H.F. Young - now I know where it is in my garden! I have no clue what my magenta one is, but I do have H. F. Young and thought it was something else. Your garden is gorgeous - LOVE the birdhouse or whatever it is with the tin roof. You must live somewhere with perfect growing conditions for everything because it all looks LUSH.

Westy, those were pictures from this spring. Now things are very stressed and browned out due to the heat (supposed to be around 100 again tomorrow and Thursday) and lack of rainfall. I have resigned myself that things will look great here in the spring and early summer and then like crap the rest of the summer until late fall. One advantage is that the growing season extends late into the fall and begins in March some years. The hell months here are typically late June thru the middle of September or so.
