not growing

I planted two clematis in late june. They don't seem to be growing! They are still green but no growth! They are the duchess of edinburgh(sp?) and a double purple that the site I ordered it from did not give me the name of.

I buried them appropriately with directions from clematis.org, they are in full sun, lots of mulch, bloom booster, and watered every other day as needed. They are two small to shade with another plant. What gives? Are they just working on roots?

Once again, if the plants are green and just sitting there, they are getting settled in the ground and establishing their root systems. There is nothing to be concerned with. Just give the plants time.

Another point to consider, if you are experiencing the hot weather we have been experiencing in NC, then that might be another reason your plants are not growing. In my experience, clematis like cooler weather (air temps) and typically don't put out tons of top growth when the temps are in the 90s.

Clematis are not instant gratification plants. They take several years to mature. It is normal for them to work on root growth when first planted. If they put out a bunch of top growth it would likely wilt anyway.
