I think that is the same clematis I have wandering through some shrubbery; and mine does the same thing... wanders around unobtrusively and surprises me here and there. It has wandered up into the street tree in my case. Mine is growing in poor soil so the flowers are small, and because they are dark you don't always notice them right away, so they are like a little gardening surprise you get for looking closely.

I tend toward the showier flowers and sometimes think I should take this one out and replace it, but it is "growing on me" as the years go by.
