Clematis

Im looking for ideas..I have a planter 16-18"wide 18"deep and 5ft long and the top is about 5 ft off the ground. Im look for a flowering plant to put in there so it cascades to the ground. All I can think of is a Clematis. Any other ideas? and if a clematis is my best choice (zone 6)are there variants that wont work as well with this type growth pattern? thanks for input

does it have to be perrenial? because petunias would be perfect for you and they bloom all summer. I dont think clems bloom long enough, even tho i have alot i just enjoy them in bloom and forget about them when theyre just foilage. Also sweet potato vine would work too. Hope it helps!

What about ivy geraniums?

Thanks lilyfinch for the ideas, Inever thought of going with annuals. Im not to knowledgable about petunias that will drape 5'...nor sweet potato vine. Ill have to do some 'net surfing. on those ideas!

I'm not sure Clematis would work. I think it would try to climb and end up clinging to its own stems and creating a tangle, not a cascade.
