Question about Sweet Autumn Clematis vine...

Hello everyone,

I just ordered 2 of these Sweet Autumn Clematis vines... getting 2 might have been my first problem as I've heard they are strong growers but I want to cover the backside of my house and I thought this just might be the vine to do it. My question is...If I use the trellis netting aganist the wall (side of the house) Will this vine climb up it and will the netting be able to support such a vigerous vine?

Also as I said I got 2 of them thinking I wanted it nice and full and I got a redish colored Rosemoor to grow within it would planting all 3 of these together cause any un-seen problems that any of you could think of?

The netting will be able to support the weight of the vine, but you are going to have a rather difficult time attempting to remove the vines from the netting. Unlike a more rigid fencing material, you will probably rip the netting trying to pull the vines off of it. That will mean you will have to cut the vines off the netting one by one which is going to be a rather arduous task. I sure wouldn't want to do that.

Rosemoor will be eaten alive by your two SAC. I would not recommend planting it with your two SAC.

Thanks so much!! I never ever thought about having to cut it out of the netting and what a tedious job that would be!! I will have to think up something else for it to grow on because I know right where I want it to grow.

I did think that it could/might over take the Rosemoor but I've never grown a SAC before and with that being said I can't say how well they grow and over take other plants ;) Sounds like it might give my Wisteria a run for it's money!!

Nckvilledudes, As I said I order 2 of the SAC's and after looking and reading up on them I think one will be more then enough!! So that leaves me with a extra one and I've been wandering around thinking about where I could plant it and I was wondering if I could plant it with my Wisteria? They both are crazy growers so do you think one would choke out the other?

It would be a nice combo because my Wistera don't flower lol or I shall say it hasn't yet (3 years) But I chopped it back and moved it and I'm hoping that I shocked it into flowering for me next year and don't end up killing it ;) Plus it would fill in all that green in the fall when the SAC flowers.

What do you think?

Both are aggressive growers. I would try it and see what happens. If the SAC doesn't do well, it could easily be transplanted out later to another spot. My SAC survives with no watering from me and we are in the middle of an extreme drought. It is getting ready to bloom right now. I think it could deal with the wisteria.
