Don't know if it is me or what but I can't see the pictures. Based on right clicking and looking at the properites of your pictures it appears you are trying to link pictures stored on your hard drive. That won't work. You need to have your pictures stored online at one of the many picture photo sites that allows direct image linking.

What specific colors do you like? Would you prefer a clematis that you would cut back in the late winter/early spring (type III) so you can repaint your railing or would you prefer a type II which would only need pruning to remove deadwood or contain its growth? Would you prefer a clematis that bloomed early in the season or midseason or late season? More info would be helpful in assisting you.

I won't be painting on a yearly basis...lets hope its more by the decade or never again! As far as which group type, I guess it doesn't matter much. I have no issues with either type of pruning. Which do you think would be a better fit for a front porch?

As for bloom time...not real picky here either. Optimally a rebloomer or long bloomer---late early/midseason would actually be nice. I have several paniculata hydrangeas that will be the focus late in the season, so not as important to have something popping out then...though would not be a bad thing either.

And color...white or reds & pinks...purple tones maybe okay, but really nothing too much towards blue.

For vigor, beauty and fragrance of bloom, I would go with Betty Corning. She is just a wonderful clematis and is paired with Viola and Warsaw Nike in the following pictures.

For a different shaped bloom, Duchess of Albany can't be beat. She also blooms off and on all summer for me.

Of the ones listed, all are type IIIs which will have one flush of blooms and then can bloom on and off all summer. I can also cut mine back by half or so after the main flush is finished, keep the plants watered and fertilized, and they will have another sizeable flush later in the season.

The possibilities are endless!

Bellarosa, Black Prince was purchased from Chalk Hill last spring I believe.

Yep, it was Chalk Hill but it seems they are out of stock now. Perhaps they will have some next spring.

But I ordered Madame Julia Correvon from Bluestone - so excited for this one to arrive. I plan to pot it up once it arrives and have printed out some excellent advice from this forum on how to care for the young clematis. Never would have known to pinch without this place.
