Is this a clematis bud?

Hi,

Im a greenthumb newbie and I was wondering if this was a clematis bud? Somoene please help.

Just FYI -- its an HF Young Clematis. Anything else you can share about this plant would be helpful. Would love to hear your personal experience with it.

Yes, that is a flower bud.

It must be getting pretty root bound in that container. You need to get it in the ground.

Suzie, where do you live in CA? If you are in one of the extremely hot interior valleys where triple digit temps are common in the summer, I personally would hold off planting it in the ground until fall. Its just too stressful on new plants IMO! Here in the central valley the forcast has been for more triple digits this week. I don't have experience with HF Young, but Polish Spirit, Niobe, Gillian Blades, and Miss Bateman have done well for me. Good luck...clematis are well worth the effort!

Oh wow...thanks so much for the advice. I am located in the San Francisco bay area, and that is zone 10a.

wakechick + bob, thanks so much, I will definitely get that clematis to the ground! I just have to decide where, exactly.

would you guys happen to know if there is a specific direction that I should wrap the clematis leaves on my trellis?
