Montana Clematis Propogation

I have two pink Montana clematis' on my back fence and they bloom beautifully in the spring. I would like to plant some on my front fence but they are very scarce to find at the nurseries where I live. Is it possible to take a cutting and try and root it or could I try and put a stem into the soil and see if it roots?

Layering is the best and easiest way to get new plants from existing plants. You won't loose anything however by trying both methods and seeing which will work best for you. You might end up with extras you can share with your friends and family.
