You can plant them on a chain link fence. Keep in mind that some may get taller than the fence. Is the sun side of the fence towards you? They will grow and bloom towards the sun. Good spacing would be 24-36 inches. I have planted them as close as 12 inches. On my fence I planted 2 type 2's and then 2 type 3's to make it a little easier to trim them in the winter. Read the FAQ's up above for more planting and pruning instructions. When you plant in the fall you need about 6 weeks before frost to get the plant to establish. In my zone I can plant most of the winter. However you are in a much colder zone so an early spring planting might be better for you.
