Carrie, Dan at Brushwood carries this clematis. I have no experience with it since the one I got died shortly after planting so asking Dan might provide you with the best info. According to his info, it only grows 8 to 10 feet so don't know if that matches your requirements or not.

I bought this clematis from Dan's vendor station this morning! Dan wasn't there, though, and his staff were not very familiar with it. I did read the info on his website. I think that you are right, that it is not so vigorous. There's also some conflicting information on the web about what type of climber, if at all, it is. My best guess is that it is a lazy-ish climber/sprawler.

I planted it among some small shrubs, we'll see what happens.

Good move Carrie. Dan is always helpful and I have contacted him many times directly. May have to find out why he didn't list this one on his website but is selling it locally. May be that he only had a few to sell.

Here is a shot of mine that croaked on me after it flowered. Something was definitely not to its liking as can be seen by the chlorotic leaves.
