Indeed beautiful flowers on this one! .... BUT, BUT, BUT, in many locations it's a real MILDEW magnet! By midseason, the foliage of my plant was totally WHITE and unsightly! I might have to reconsider whether I'll be keeping this one!

'Roguchi' is an integrifolia hybrid and tends to be herbaceous, dying to the ground each season and reappearing in spring as do other perennials. As such, it really is not a vining climber, but a lax sprawler that will weave in between other plants. It can be encouraged upwards to grow through roses or small shrubs but will never achieve much height. It can develop some woody stems with this type of training, but still should be pruned back hard each season. I have never had a problem with PM on this clem and our dry but very mild summers tend to encourage this disease. High humidity may very well be a factor in its tendency to develop this problem.

The dark blue, almost purple bells should be a nice compliment to a peach colored rose.

I saw PM on it at Joy Creek and Gail Austin told me she dropped it from production because of it. So, I didn't plant it. Sure love the flowers....

Really a shame this one has a problem with mildew, I've read of people having removed it from their gardens. Spraying is an option, though I'm often too busy to get around to doing so.

I finally pulled my Roguchi last year but I decided to give it a try in a container. It did ok for while, but when the foliage got bad, I just cut it down. It wasn't exactly PM. It just got dull and droopy. Anyhow it grew back nicely and bloomed again. But not much. And not much the first bloom either. I'll give it one more year like this before I decide for sure whether to keep it.

I was planting another clem this fall, Duchess of Albany, and I read somewhere that it too is susceptible to PM. So I planted it to grow on my lilac that also gets PM. I do spray the lilac anyhow so I figure that should work out ok.

Wendyb, in some years my 'Duchess of Albany' has suffered from mildew, other seasons it has been rather clean. This is a beautiful variety you are sure to much enjoy!
