clematis replant

my husband ripped out the clematis plant. it was doing amazing in the spot it was located in. this happened 2 days ago. i found the roots in a clump on top of some dirt, probably a good 2 feet worth today. i immediately dug a hole in the same spot, put some leaves, branches and flowers in with the roots and replanted them and then watered heavily. will it survive?

No one can guarantee anything Rachel but all you can do is wait and see what transpires next spring. I am assuming that the crown with most of the roots were still intact. Not sure why you added leaves, branches, and flowers in the hole with the plant though.
