Clematis comparison

Here are four Clems I purchased fairly recently. Sorry, the background is cluttered but I think you can get the idea.

The blue pot is a one gallon Cezanne purchased at a local nursery. List price $19.99 but I had a coupon and paid $9.99.

The brown pot was purchased at a local big box store for $9.99. The brown leaves are my fault for not planting it right away. I have planted it and the pot was full of roots and it had multiple stems when I bought it.

The other two are from Chalk Hill. I paid $13.29 including shipping. They both have roots barely growing, no where near filling the pot.

You be the judge.....

Great pictures BorS. You know what they say about a picture being worth a thousand words.

By the way, I love the clover in your yard! ;)

So, what's the name of that local nursery? I work in Beaverton and this might be local enough for me. :-)

The brown pot came from Fred Meyer, they had tons of them earlier in the year and the blue pot came from Al's Garden Center in Woodburn. They do have a Sherwood location. $19.99 was cheaper than I had seen the Evison Patio Clematis for previously.

Al's offered a coupon during the Le Tour Des Plants in September that enabled me to get it for 50% off.

What are you talking about...I don't see any roots! I see potted plants! For all I know the pot is packed with roots.
I have to disagree with a lot of the posts here. I don't like it when people bash one company on a public forum and praise another. Not good. State your experience but I didn't like the tone that was set by the first poster.

The first poster is a regular contributor here. I have no reason to believe she is lying. In fact, my order too had very weak plants. Many of us had weak plants.

How was your order, or have you just popped in to be snarky.

What tone? She merely showed a photo of the clematis and gave a description of them. If you bothered to read any post other than this one you will see that many people had a bad experience and received dead or small, poorly rooted clematis. BorS is a regular poster here, she stated her experience and posted photo's to back up her statements. I don't believe I've seen you post before? Janet, I believe your assessment was correct.

I'm not going to go out and dig up the Chalk Hill clematis and photograph the roots. They've been either repotted or in the ground now for over a month and I'm sure they have grown as it has been warm.

The roots nowhere near filled the pots. The pots were filled with rocks rather than standard potting soil. The plants could have been shipped in those tiny pots that Donahue's uses for less than half the shipping price.

The top growth was pathetic. All but one only had one stem.

If they live, I'm sure they'll be fine plants someday but even on sale for half off with shipping they do not compare with the plants I can buy locally. Which was my point.
