I have a clematis armandii that's two years old (at least it's been in the ground two years). It has climbed through our chain fence which is good. It has also gone up the shrubs that belong to my neighbor behind me. Now my neighbor wants to remove those shrubs.

Can I unwind the clematis from the shrubs and train in on a tall trellis? Should I cut the clematis from the shrubs (I just hate the thought of doing that)? IF I need to cut it, when should I do it?

This is the only clematis I have and it seems so happy there -- I really don't want to move it.

Any help would be greatly appreciated!
