Larry, try Armillariella mellea (Honey Mushroom) It's 1-5 in. wide; stem 1 1/2-6 in tall. Cap is slimy when wet, and light to dark yellow, honey-colored, or brown, with fine hairs or scales over the center; gills attached or running down stem, white or cream (spotted with age); stem white to buff or brown, with collar near top; black stringlike growths in nearby wood and soil; spores white or pale cream. Habitat: in clusters on logs and stumps; sometimes at the base of tree.
