Ferns do not take from cuttings..

Autumn moon is right. Few ferns will root from a cutting. But some do multiply, and if there is more than one crown, you can separate the crowns and pot them. I have several temperate ferns growing indoors all winter. BUT and I emphasize this because it bothers some people, it is normal for most temperate ferns to hibernate all winter. And often when you force them to stay awake in a warm house, they get a bit ratty looking. They drop some leaves, etc. They do recover their good looks in the spring.

Lots of people take their Boston ferns that they've grown in pots on the porch, inside for the winter. Then they get frustrated when the fern drops most of its foliate and gets a little brown. Then they throw the fern out, when it would recover nicely when the days get longer.

I'm just saying this could happen to your ferns, so please be aware.

Can I add a comment from across the Atlantic? There are many temperate ferns which are truly evergreen - we grow many outside in the west of Scotland and have some indoors in a conservatory too. Some beautiful Aspleniums and Blechnums just to name two genera. Look up a few fern nurseries on the web and you'll be amazed.
