I'm thinking new things for spring (YES SPRING!)I think

that Iochromas are just beautiful and I plan to grow a

few next season (hopefully). Has anyone ordered these from

Kartuz ..and..are they easy to grow as the trumpets?

So where is Liz at Arghya Gardens? I am looking to buy some Iochromas too, Thanks for the info. About 2 months ago I adquired some big black pots-plastic--the type the cows molases come in? anyway I am planing on using this pots for my Brugies. I thought I would make holes about 3 inches above from the bottom of the pots for drainage, and bury this pots in the ground, what do you all think? Thakns for reading and your input.

I've been ordering from Kartuz for several years and am usually very satisified with their plants. Keep in mind that most are starter size. I do know someone that has had issues with the wrong variety being sent but that's never happened to me. You might want to check and see if Zone 9 has any iochromas in stock when you are ready to order as their plants are usually a really good size.

Marcie I'm not sure how big the pots you are talking about are but if you're planning on sinking them you need not bother with large pots. A 10" diameter is plenty. I cut the holes about halfway up the sides of the pot when I sink them. Use the really big containers for brugs that you are keeping on a deck or something like that. Why bother knocking yourself out digging a huge hole when it's not necessary? My biggest brugs were sunk in 8" pots and had multiple 8'+ stems. Make sure that the holes that you cut in the sides of the container are a good size (3" diameter) because the roots that make their way out can get huge

I'm feeling you, Karyn. I just put those big babies in huge
pots right on the deck. I just realized that planting them
all in ground is too much work. I usually plant no more than
5-6 in the ground. Can you imagine if we could leave them ALL
    outside all winter???
I was recently viewing Kartuz"s list of Iochromas and they
are indeed quite small when shipped. I'm going to take a shot at a few of them.

Pearlgirl, I have ordered Iochromas from Karutz's twice. I ordered both times, Indigo, Sunset, and , Ruby Red, I got nice established plants every time. I transplanted them in 1 gallon pots, because of their size. I lost all 6 plants due to 100 degree days. Once because our sprinkler system went out, and once because I was not able to water when I had my knee replacement. The sprinker system was working, but we had 2 months of days over 100 degree, I lost the Iochroma, and all the plants that I ordered from Puerto Rico. I would recommend Karutz, they sent me really nice plants. I ordered both times in February. I would love to try Iochroma again, maybe I am just trying the wrong variety. Kylie, what variety do you have? Barbra

Thanks, Barbra...needed that info. Really, I can't wait
to try a few. I think February would be a good time for me to
    order also.
