Hi, I wish you wer in aust. then I would help you divide it!!!! I have never suceeded in growing it from spore.
The main dividiing I do regardless of what fern variety it is, is in the spring when plant has rest of spring, summer and autumn to recover and get growing again.
Would like to see a pic. of what a good size clump looks like> Can you post a pic???? Regards Deeinoz
Ah, "good size clump" - I should explain what that means in this instance: mine is in what I consider a large pot, an 18.5x10" oval. The fern is not hardy here, so I keep it in a greenhouse. The thing is very prolific: it effortlessly catches up with a larger pot in a single growing season even though I rarely feed it or give it anything more than fresh soil or an annual topdressing.
I have given away pieces that escaped the pot to other gardeners, but I have never tried to actually divide the plant itself and replant as two different plants. I have been reluctant to do that without knowing more about it.
I will take a picture and post it as soon as possible.
