Irish Moss

I want to plant Irish Moss at different locations on our property and tie it in with other types of ground coverings. Way to much grass and I want to get rid of all of it. Much of the property will be turned into edible landscaping. Has anyone had any luck growing IM in Northern Alabama?

I would assume it would do fine in Alabama but you should know it is not really a moss and wants almost full sun at least here in Oregon or it gets really scraggly and discolored. Sagina subulata (Irish) and Sagina subulata ÂAureaÂ (Scotch) are the latin names.

I thought irish moss was a type of seaweed? kept some Irish from starving during potato famine? Guess I'm way off. Good luck. I've got moss growing in various places, having a house that faces north, some hills, and it stays wet.Don't know what kind of moss it is, but I kinda like it. Adds interest to my shady woodland yard.
