Lovely! I had one of these,not sure it made it thru the last winter.

I'm looking for any information about growing Ostrich or Interrupted Ferns indoors, year round. I seem to remember having Shield ferns going dormant for winter (in a Brougmansia they had snuck into)

And Fiddle Head Ferns (as the fiddle spools are nice and plump, are an INCREDIBLE side dish for a gourmet meal or mixed with a summer salad.

I saw some in a local (upscale) grocery last year for $7.99 / pound! If you'inz are lookin' for a nice cash crop. consider the multi-talented Fiddlehead.

PS: Country Boy rarely sets foot in such highbrow joints, but it was late winter and was cookin' up some vittles for a few friends and wanted to let them see how we git along down in these hollas, so went in search of some fresh fiddlehead... It's a locally owned store, and not a major chain so I consoled myself with the truth that I was supportin' the local boys as i turned some friends on to the delicious, kinda sweet & nutty taste of fiddleheads.

I'm fixin' to spout my own next spring in the green house

Thanks for your comments. The fiddlehead and morel salad sounds delicious but the problem I have here in Minnesota is that the ferns sprout much earlier than the morels show so I couldn't combine the two fresh. I dehydrate morel slices for winter use and could certainly try them, or try freezing some fiddleheads (don't know how well that would work) and using them when the morel harvest starts.

So the fern fronds are all unfurled now - my spring snacking has ended. The last meal I had of fiddleheads was a folded omelette with freshly harvested fiddleheads, asparagus, wild ramps, winter onions, and volunteer spinach, with venison sausage on the side. Delicious.

Fiddleheads are great on the grill, too...
