Pruning Container Citrus

Hello,

July's heat really did a number on my Citrus. Temps were 100-104F throughout the month.

Even though soil was watered, 'almost daily,' some leaves dropped leaving bare stems.

Should I prune the stems? If so, should it be done now or spring?

Although some stems are bare, they're alive. Stems are flexible, not brittle.

Will new growth resume on the stems? Or die?

I'm in IL where winters are icy and air is dry. Most days have little sun.

Please help...Thanks, Toni
