Whatcha Think?

I built this garden bench out of an old bed frame I found at a garage sale. After building it I stained it a dark mahoganey and then painted it a beautiful Martha Stewart green allowing the dark stain to peek through as if it were an old antique. Do any of you have seating within your gardens?

Thank you all so much for the wonderful comments. I was a bit hesitant to post my bench photo, as I don't want to post too many OT posts. But right now I don't have any Brug pictures....Next gardening season...hopefully. I love making things from wood. My next goals are birdhouses. I have some I built when I first started gardening. But I need to add a few more as I already have the posts in ground and waiting there birdhouse.

Kym, it is very heavy...too bad you don't live next to me. We could build you one easily. It only took me one day to build it. I was very fotunate to have run into this headboard at a garage sale. I was driving by and they had it sitting propped up by a tree. Thank goodness there were no cars behind me as I lit the brakes and wound up getting the headboard for $2.

Barb, I purchased a castor bean plant a few years ago and it did seed. I do plant those seeds every year. But I'm not certain what variety it was. I do know it was one of the red castor beans. I still have not gotten my package out to you. :) It's coming....I promise.

I love your bed bench. I am gonna look at the habit for humanity store here and see if I can find some old headboards now. That is so beautiful and unique, I like the finish, it goes perfectly in the garden!

I forgot, I was gonna ask you, if the stain was water resistant or if you added a satin sealer type coating over it?

Theresa, I do everything in my head as I go along. I don't draw anything out. A few years ago, I built 2 benches, 2 chairs and a table for inbetween the chairs out of wooden pallets. I'll see if I can find some photos of these.

Lenette, I did use an exterior oil based stain. May have to add an exterior sealer too. But I want it to weather a little more before I add that. :)

I do hope I run into another interesting headboard as I would love to make another one. I don't want my gardens to get cluttered so I'm running out of areas to place things without seeing clutter. :( I suppose I could make things and sell them giving me a little plant money. If nothing else it would at least take care of my nervous energy. ha ha.

Thanks again everyone for your beautiful comments.

This was my very first big project I made. It took me weeks to get all my wood cut and everything put together. Fortunately, it's still standing. aaahhh ha ha.

As everyone else has said, very very nice work, really elegant. Too bad our cold seasons are longer than the warm ones up here eh? Oh well, someday a heated shop in the garage....but then I wouldn't get to all the reading stuff I set aside during those warmer months.
    stay warm,
