Meyer Lemon help

I purchased a Meyer Lemon and a Washington Navel in mid June. The Wash.navel has already had 2 flushes of new growth and is already about 3 times the size at purchase time. The Meyer Lemon while it has gotten bigger it has not had one new leaf on it but it also has not lost a leaf. It has been getting a tremendous amount of flowers(some stems have 15 flowers on them. When the lemons get to about the size of a marble they turn yellow and fall off. I have been treating both plants the same with water and fertilizer, but the lemon just doesn't look right. One or two leaves are yellow but not the rest. It also is not as dark green as the navel. Both have been fertilized. Any suggestions?

It all sounds pretty much normal, to me. Just keep doing what you are doing and everything should turn out fine. It has only been a month from the time you received the trees. The Meyer is flowering at this time, a flush will come later. About 95 to 98 percent of the small fruitlets will normally drop from the tree. You can expect to mature approximately 3 or 4 percent of the fruit, if that. - Millet

    Jeff,

Meyer's have a bit of a reputation for being rather fussy. I have had one for about five months now. From the first spring bloom, all of the little fruits turned yellow and fell off, although most did not get the size of a marble before doing so. Apparantly this is quite normal, especially for a young tree. Typically only a couple of percent of the fruits will stay on the tree. Then I got a big second bloom, and I now have about 30 or so marble sized fruits that are growing rapidly and are still green. However the tree has been losing healthy leaves like crazy! It's probably dropped about 40 leaves or so in the last two weeks. Still not sure why, although the fruits seem to be progressing and there is even a third bloom going on.

The bottom line is, it appears the Meyers will do their own thing regardless. You will probably get another bloom and hopefully some of those fruits will stick.

I have a Meyer that arrived in March 05. It has had some new foliage, a blossom or two which dropped off and the new foliage is now a motled greenish yellow. Also some of the new leaves are huge. It is in a 6" container. Anne12

New leaves that grow to a "huge" size are absolutely normal. Just keep an eye on your tree, as the coloration of the leaves tell you exactly what is right or wrong with the tree. One or two off color leaves really do not mean all that much, but if you see a pattern begining to develop, then there is cause for concern. - Millet

I tried to transplant a mature Meyer Lemon (4-5 ft. height and 4-5 ft. diameter) 8 weeks ago. I think it is dead. All of the leaves are gone with no sign of new growth. I cut it back somewhat before the transplant, but within two weeks the leaves were dried and brown. How long should I wait until throwing in the towel? Is it possible it would be dormant until next spring and then recover?

Thanks in advance for any advice.

Please tell us what did you do wrong why it died on you so we learned from you.
I just transferred 2 citrus my pomello and my oroblanco 3 and 2 years old as large as yours to the ground 2 months ago and it did well even I was gone for 30 days.
there was no leaf drop nor I put them in the semishade.
