How to vent a range in front of a window? Going from a 44 inch cut out to a 30 inch range? Help!
Comments (9)As you can see, there are two windows to contend with. The house is a 1910 Craftsman style kit home. The range has always been in front of the window and the sink is in front of the other. Opposite the pictured walls, are the pantry and the kitchen entrance(pictured below). Moving the range really isn't an option when you factor in the only other applicable place is where the fridge has to go. Sad, but true. Luckily, there are 14 inches from the countertop level to the window sill. I will be reworking the cabinetry to fill the space from 44 inches to 30 inches. Probably adding two spice pull out cabinets on the sides of the range. Then, going in with a 30 inch slide in unit. Since the counter top will be new it will appear to be a seamless transition. It will be a composite type and made to fit. Was wondering if it would be possible to install a downdraft type vent behind the range. Similar to those used on a kitchen island. Or maybe a downdraft vent to the side of the range? Or possibly do a fan recessed above the stove with no hood, though I'd question its ability to pull from that distance. I don't plan on ever using a window covering of any kind and I'm not really concerned about it catching on fire. I, honestly, like the natural light that the window provides for cooking and the view. What's your thoughts on downdrafts?...See Morehow do you stop grass from growing too fast or stop it completely?
Comments (5)i was in licensed Landscape contractor for 20 years. So I’m coming from experience. Feed and water is the only thing that will make your lawn grow fast. Especially if they or you feed it a fast feeding nitrogen. Like an Ammonia salt base one. If watered and feed properly. You shouldn’t be mow more than once ever 2 1/2 to 3 week. The question I always told my customers to ask there maintenance person ‘ are you maintaining my yard or growing your business. Don‘t ask the person at the nursery how often to water. They are in the business of ‘growing and selling plants and ground covers(grass) You should be providing just enough to ‘maintain yours. When it comes to watering, if the water is puddling before the cycle is over you're watering to long. You also need to know how deep the water is gettin. Once it begins to puddle turn the water off. Time how long it takes to soak in. Then check to see how deep it has gone. depending on the type of grass you have. Will determine how deep the water should be. The deeper you can train the roots to grow. The longer you can go between waterings. Wet mops pick up better than dry one. Starving the top two inches of soil of water. Reduces your weed germination. Setting your sprinklers at 8,5,3 minute cycle. Gets better soaking results. Than one 15 minute cycle. (The 8,5,3 is based on how long before it starts to puddle) by Multiplying your valves by the watering time. Gives you the amount of ‘soaking time. Before you recycle the system. The water will still be soaking into the ground even after it disappears under the surface. If the soil is saturated give it time to soak in. You want to know how far down the ground is getting moist. Keeping it wet in top layer will pull the moisture to the top. water at top encourages weed growth and root bounding of the lawn. It is why over watered lawns reguire more and more water an fertilizer to keep them green. Screw the people who don’t like the term. But you ended up with a dependent welfare lawn. Once you have determined your watering soaking cycle . You'll need to know how often. Use a clam type post hole digger or a bulb planter to see how long it takes for the soil to dry down about 8-12 inches. If the soil is still moist 3 days after you water it. Wait a couple of more days. Don’t keep using the same test hole. When you replace the sod. Place it level. By using washing sand into the hole it will fill the voids. Don’t leave it high with the idea it is going to settle down level. How long it takes is how often you water. I have had lawns I only watered once ever 3 weeks. A trick to check for coverage, is to place small cups all over the yard. Than see how closely they are filled to each other. Sorry for being wordy but there isn’t a one watering plane fits all. The person that tells you 15 minutes every 4 days. Has been misinformed. But is happy to share their ignorance with you. ☀️ 🌧 P.S. I’m not good at punctuation and spelling, sorry...See MoreLandscaper took cutting from tree?
Comments (1)Crepe myrtles are woody trees not like succulents that can be cut and replanted. It would take some sophisticated grafting to actually be able use the cutting..if he took it. It's not like he can stick it into the ground and it will grow roots. It has to be grafted onto another crepe myrtle tied in place and it may or may not grow and I've never heard of someone taking crepe myrtle cuttings. It's a really common tree. For the record contractors do like to cut anything and everything..so maybe they just saw it and said I should cut that. There is some seasonal pruning that should be done to trees and shrubs to keep them shapely. I don't know if he took a branch off that was leaning the wrong way? Crepe myrtles grow fast so It should recover quickly..and it might be better shaped for it..or not? You can just tell him not to cut it in the future....See MoreCan I grow a banana pup from a PC.
