am very interested in growing various types of mosses and Lichens...where can one obtain different species???

It all depends where you live. The easiest source of mosses locally would have to be a plant nursery. Go to one near you that offers ferns for sale. Then look around in the pots and around the ground where ferns are being raised. If you see any mosses I would ask the people there if you could have some of the mosses to grow at home.
Apart from that if you live in an area where moss may be easily found and you have friends or associates who own property with forests or woods or any wild type place ask to see if you could explore to find mosses to collect.
Do not collect on public or government lands though collecting on these sites is possible with the proper certification or license. You could check with a US Forest Service representative to see what is take-able.
Or you can buy mosses on eBay.

To get moss and such to grow on terricotta pots (rocks-wood or such) just paint them with plain yogurt and place them outside in partical/full shade on the north side of the house and within a few months moss would begin to grow on them.

Now if I could only find a solution to the squirrels digging big holes in the moss lawn.........grr.

Have you any knowledge on Kyoto Moss??? I have some spores and I'm not sure how to grow it.
