I tried for the close-ups, but it was simultaneously too bright *and* too dark....
With a slightly more clear sky, I can get some better macro shots.

I would spend the whole year looking for moss through caves, mountains, along streams, people's yards, the forest and so on...

There is very rare moss that only grows up there..Very beautiful and against the law to take..

Nancy, I'm glad I could drag you over to the mossy side of things.... ;)
I know that these pics probably make you think brrrrr! too cold....!

Mike, during the summer, most of these mosses are dry, crumbly patches.
What I like most about these little colonies is that they're natural bonsai.
You can literally pick up a moss-covered stump, take it home, and plop in under
a conifer (like a redwood) for your very own mossy scene. I collect logs, stumps,
rocks, just about anything that supports mosses and lichens.

If you make it to Mount Washington, I want to see pics!

I found some moss in my lawn on some coal ashes, but I thought that moss likes acidity and coal ashes are not. Please explain
