I have not had any Ugli fruit before, but I did try the Cacktail grapefruit and I did not think there was any complexity to the flavor and it had a ton of seeds. I had initially ordered a Cocktail grapefruit tree and cancelled tho order after trying the fruit. The description that I remember was a fruit that did not have the bitter after taste associated with grapefruit and it did have that bitter flavor. I want to say that there were around 30 seeds in each fruit. Have you considered the Oro Blanco grapefruit?

Thanks for your response, Andrew. I am aware that 'Cocktail' is full of seeds just like the Ugli Fruit. Although I'd rather have it seedless, the seediness doesn't matter much since I plan to make sorbet, not eat it out of hand. I have read that 'Oro Blanco' is good for pots but not especially tasty. I have no personal experience though and so do not really know.

I would dod some research here on people's opinion of the Oro Blanco. I know Mike said that it is one of the best flavored citrus. I think it is the only one he eats! I have heard others say that it is great also. From the fruit I ate, I wouldn't even bother with juicing it!! I would rather have ate a nice Star Ruby but that is my opinion. The Oro on the other hand I think in Israel is known as Swettie? This fruit is supposed to not be bitter like the Cocktail.

Cocktail tastes like a sweet non-bitter white grapefruit. I used to have some 10 gallon ones that fruited. Haven't tasted Ugli which is a Tangleo but it described in 'Citrus varieties of the World' as sweet orange/mandarin like with no bitterness but only if grown in a tropical country, otherwise it is acidic and lacking in sweetness.

If you're interested in tasting it, I found the Ugli fruit, not the trees, at both Kroger and Meijer grocery stores, hoping you have one of these in Texas. Thank you for your info on the taste of Cocktail.
